What Does Paisley and Plaid Mean
About 15 years ago I was working as a sales assistant at Smith Barney. One of my fellow sales assistants, I wish I could remember her name because I would give her full credit here, said to me in a joking manner…come to think of it, maybe she was serious, hmmmmmm, anyway, she said ”do you have a mirror to look at yourself before you walk out the door and come to work?” I laughed and asked her what she meant? She said “you are the only person I know that would wear paisley and plaid together and think it was okay”!
Um, you mean it isn’t okay???…it’s like breathing in and out! I told her if you have the colors right, it would work great together! I really couldn’t understand what she was talking and laughing about, she just didn’t get it.
So, paisley and plaid has been on my mind and been my style all of my life, it just became defined 15 years ago. Kind of like country casual or midcentury modern, soft contemporary…paisley and plaid! Yup, I like it!
Infact, here are pictures of patterns in my family room that shows you the whole pattern on pattern idea. You might not think they go together, but when I show you the picture of the entire space, you can see how it all works. The colors and tone of the patterns and how the mood of the room pull it in.
It all works for me because I love each piece individually and when displayed together they work like seasonings in a yummy melting pot of patterns and style that is unique to me.
The key here is to embrace your style, don’t ask your sister, your neighbor or your best friend because your style is, well, just that, your style. Love your style, love your look and pull out, put on, paint it or decorate it in paisley and plaid…it’s your style! Actually, it’s my style so keep your mitts off!
How do you make your room unique to you using the paisley and plaid style?
